On call and the weekend

Thursday evening Tutu and Papa braved the storms and drove in from San Antonio. I was on call Friday and they were going to watch the LPs in case I got called in.

Thank goodness they came in because guess who got called in?!? Yep - me!  Luckily I didn't have to stay all day and I was able to get home to the fam bam!

The news was forecasting more storms and flooding so my parents decided that it would be best if they went ahead and drove back to SA. I'm sad it was such a short trip for them but I'm glad they made it home safe and sound.

Brent and Aubrey offered to watch the boys for us so we could celebrate our anniversary. Nick and I got them down for the night and had a fabulous dinner at a place called Dino's. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and Nick had the filet. It was amazing. The waitress must have heard us talking about our anniversary because she brought us dessert!

Saturday we packed up and took the boys to an appointment at Direct Buy. We listened to their pitch but decided it wasn't for us. It seemed a little ... Fishy.  According to the salesperson, we can "go ahead and keep wasting our money". He was a piece.

Chick-fil-a was on our agenda for lunch. We went inside and fed the LPs and then ate ourselves. We were right next to Grapevine Mills so we thought, why not?!? We headed that way and did a little shopping. I got a new pair of tennis shoes and Nick got some shorts for our Mexico trip. There were a lot of baby shops that I cannot wait to visit during the week when the mall isn't so crazy busy.

We came home and played with the LPs before getting them ready for bed. Sweet boys. They had a really good and busy day. They make me so proud at how adaptable they are. I love it!

Saturday night was a bit of a disaster. Both boys were up multiple times during the night. We fed them and changed diapers and got them back down. I think this weather has them in a tizzy at night. I'm looking forward to some sunshine!

Sunday was our 7 year wedding anniversary. I got up at 7 to pump and let Nick sleep in. Pierce woke up around 8, followed by Knox around 8:45. It was nice to spend some one on one time with each of them as I fed them their bottles. We played and read lots of books before daddy woke up and came to play with us too.

Nick had to go into work for a few hours so the LPs and I hung out some more. We did bath time and played. I was able to unpack a few more boxes my parents had brought up while the boys napped.

When Nick got home, I was able to shower and get ready and we headed to Esparza's for lunch/dinner. Plus- we wanted margaritas!  The boys were a blast. P was talking up a storm and loving getting his puffs! Knox was laid back, taking everything in.

We stopped by Messina Hof (a local winery) and picked up our wine of the month bottles. We also received a complimentary glass of champagne. Cheers to 7 years!!!!

Monday I worked and missed my LPs. I'm ready for some serious snuggle time!

Review

I realized I never blogged about Sunday! Oops!  Well Sunday we had our first ever teenage baby sitter come over, Rachel. She came highly recommended from a coworker of mine who lives in the area and Nick and I were excited to give her a shot.

We had Rachel over while we were still home. We thought it would be a good idea since it was her first time with the boys and she's never babysat for twins before. Plus, we REALLY needed to get the boys room finished.

Rachel did a great job and we were able to get the boys room completed (other than hanging a mirror).  Anytime she had questions she came downstairs and asked us. She kept them entertained and she said she had a good time. Plus at the end, she hung out with me for a little while and answered my questions. She is graduating next week and she is going to go to the local community college for the next two years. Then she plans on transferring to UNT followed by med school at Texas A&M. She wants to become a pediatrician.

We really liked her and the LPs seemed to like her too.  Nick and I are looking forward to having her watch the boys occasionally so we can have a date night!

After Rachel left, we played with the boys for a bit and then Landon and Lauryn came over with tacos in hand. Sweet friends. They played with the boys for a while and then Nick and I got them ready for bed and put them down.

We ate dinner with L2 and then sat around and talked for a few hours. I love being so close to them and I love that the babies won't be too far apart. They are going to be the best of friends. I can feel it!

Tuesday, I was supposed to work but I got delayed all day! It was such a blessing because Pierce was up a good portion of the night with what seemed to be a tummy ache. He woke up at midnight shrieking. He sounded like he was in a lot of pain and it broke our hearts. P is a screamer sometimes, but nothing like this. The poor guy was in pain. We brought him into the bedroom ( so he wouldn't wake Knox up), gave him some gas drops, and then I nursed him. After about 45 minutes, he was back asleep only to wake again at 5:30. Poor guy. I was tired and so happy to see Lena at 7. I crawled back in bed and slept until 9:30. I then pumped and did some unpacking.

Around 11 I headed out to run some errands - in my scrubs - just in case. After going the wrong way and getting lost, I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got some hangers, a shoe rack, and a shower caddy. I then hit up Carter's that was next door and got the LPs some cute new outfits and some shorts that they were in desperate need of. TJ max was also near by so I stopped there and got a cover up for Mexico and a photo album to try and organize some pictures I had printed a while back. Next stop was an eyebrow wax and the grocery store for a few things.

I called L&D to see how it looked for me around 3. They had 6 patients on the board so I figured I was safe. I headed home to unload all of my loot.

At home, I assembled the shoe rack I had bought and got my shoes organized. By the time I was finished with that it was nearly 5 so I had Lena head out. The LPs were pretty fussy. We played and then I fed them and started getting them ready for bed. Lena said they had not napped well so I knew they were just overly tired.

Nick came home as I was feeding the LPs and we finished putting them down. They had a great night. We needed it.

Wednesday we hung out all day and played, played, played. We played so hard that sweet P fell asleep in his exersaucer. Not once, but TWICE!!! Poor guy!

First time he was worn out

Second time he passed out ( food coma!)

I especially loved Wednesday because I was able to nurse the boys all day.

Knox passed out in my arms.

I also got a bloody nose from Knox.  Oops!! We were playing and he grabbed my nose with his sharp nails and scratched. Boom! Mommy had a bloody nose. Won't be the last time I'm sure.

Hope everyone is having a great week!!!

Memorial Day

It was the LPs first Memorial Day! And they had a great day!

It was an early morning for me. Knox woke up at 4 and I nursed him back to sleep. Not too long after, Pierce woke up and I nursed him back to dreamland. 6:45, Knox was up and so was the rest of the Job clan.

We fed the boys and played for a while. I got ready because Lauryn and I had a date to complete her registry at Buy Buy Baby.

Lauryn picked me up and off we went. She registered for some really good stuff. I'm super excited for her and Landon. Miss. Everly is already so very loved!!!

Lauryn dropped me off at Lowes. Nick had ventured out with the LPs and was on the hunt for a garbage can. He was doing really awesome on his own but I think I got there just in time. Knox was having a little bit of a meltdown and it was just about to downpour. I met him inside, got the boys and loaded them in the car seconds before the monsoon hit.

We made it home and I fed the boys. We played while Nick got his haircut (for the second time) and then headed over to Stephanie and Danny's (Lauryn's parents) house for a shrimp boil to enjoy Memorial Day.

The boys got their first taste of ice cream. Lauryn made homemade organic chocolate ice cream and both boys LOVED it!!!! It was so much fun to watch them taste it and look up at us for more. They love chocolate ice cream just like their Tutu!!!

Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to all of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom - especially to my mom and dad. It takes a special person to serve our country and I am thankful each and every day to those who make that sacrifice. I hope everyone had a safe and fun weekend.

And we have a couch....

And we have a couch..... In 8-10 weeks. And I could not be more excited. I'm hoping the next two and a half months fly by because I cannot wait for this!!!

Nick and I have been looking for a couch for several weeks now. Pretty much since we bought this house. We looked high and low. A lot of walks from our old house to furniture stores, a lot of internet research, and a lot of magazines.

Yesterday, we were out and about with the LPs on the hunt. We drove out to The Dump, District 635, Roma, and several modern/contemporary stores in Addison.  We also stopped by Zgallerie. We kept going back to this sofa:

Starbucks was right beside Zgallerie so we stopped there and I nursed the babies and we grabbed a bite to eat. We were on the verge of pulling the trigger and buying the Zgallerie couch when we decided to drive to Restoration Hardware in Dallas to look at credenzas.

We got sidetracked by a store next to Restoration Hardware called IO Metro. We walked in to this beauty:

This picture doesn't do it justice but the couch is gorgeous and comfortable. We chose a custom fabric in a steel gray with some texture to it. Hence the reason we have to wait 8-10 weeks (although they said we may get it sooner!)

Nick and I are so pumped! This is exactly what we were looking for and we are excited. We are trying to stick to a modern, meets traditional, meets industrial feel. Kind of different but going to be so cool!!!  We are like kids in a candy store, we are so excited!!!

The LPs did AMAZING while we shopped. We took them out of their car seats several times and I think that helped a lot. They love to look at everything and I love watching them take it all in. They are so awesome.

Finally Friday

And what a Friday it was!!! The boys had a great day today! Terrible night last night, but GREAT day today. I'm thinking it had a lot to do with the 2 HOUR nap they took!!! That's right folks, a 2 hour nap. I kept checking on them, hoping they were ok!
Sleeping angels.

The morning was fun. They played in their exercaucers and then I gave them free range to roll around.

And boy did they roll!

Pretty soon it was nap time and on went their two hour nap. I'm still pinching myself about that one. I was so productive! I got a load of laundry done and folded and put away. I ironed both of the new shower curtains and unsuccessfully attempted to hang the shower curtains. Gonna need Nick's help for that one. I made the grocery store list  and did all the dishes.  To top it all off, I even pumped and flipped through a magazine. What what!?!

When the boys woke up I was armed with bottles and mashed banana. I fed the LPs and then we packed up and headed to Tom Thumb. I'm usually not a TT fan because it's expensive but just about everything I got today was a deal. Holla!!!

I know I'm a sight for sore eyes pulling a cart and pushing a double stroller through the aisles. I got some weird looks but hey, we all have to eat to live. Jeez!

Luckily there was someone to help me out with my groceries because no sooner had I jumped in the drivers seat, did it start to pour. And I mean POUR. I could barely see 10 feet in front of me. I pulled into Sonic and got myself a route 44 diet cherry limeade and braved the rain again. We made it home safe and sound and I unloaded the boys and then the groceries.

I put the boys in their bumbos and entertained them with some yogurt melts while I put stuff away and started dinner. Knox was awesome with reaching down and then putting it in his mouth. Pierce on the other hand wanted me to do it for him. Silly guy. He's the one who always has his hands in his mouth. I thought he'd love feeding himself. So wrong.

We then went up to the game room/media room and played. I pumped and they started to get fussy. I knew it was almost nap time. I took P downstairs with me to put my milk away and when I came back up, this is what I found :

Oops!!! Mommy missed her opportunity here.

It was a short nap for both of them but I'm not complaining after this morning.

Nick got home around 4:30. I've been here waiting for the verizon guy most of the day. Guess who didn't show up until 6? Yep, the verizon guy. Right in time for bedtime. Rude!! I hope all is clanking doesn't wake my sweet babies up. Grr!!!

I'm looking forward to having some internet and cable. First world problems right?  It's just been eerily quiet and I like background noise. I've been playing a lot of music for the boys. Not that they care but I do!

Here's to a fun weekend of hopefully getting everything unpacked and organized!

Working girl

What a week! And it's not even over. Tuesday I worked and it was a long day. I didn't really bond with my patient and the day kind of drug on.

Wednesday I had simulation which always gives me anxiety. This year was no different. It went smoothly but boy was I relieved it was over. Besides that, the boys were up a lot between 2:50 and 5. I nursed Pierce back to sleep and Knox was in need of several paci checks. I was exhausted.

After my class, I came home and relieved Lena. She had an appointment at 1:30 and I was rushing home!!! The boys did well for a little while - only as long as I was holding them. If I stepped away or went to the bathroom, Knox would whine and Pierce would shriek. Not to mention we have the AV guys in our house installing our surround sound. I felt like all I did was apologize for their screaming. Luckily everyone was gracious saying, "they are babies. That's what they do!"  If only everyone was like that.

Nick scheduled an appointment for an estimate for shutters. Wowza is that going to cost a fortune. Nick and I have to decided which rooms are our priorities and which ones we can live without them for a while. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I wish we could do them all. I think it's going to drive me nuts not having them all done. We are going to get some more estimates so hopefully we can find someone with lower numbers. Eek!!!

I packed the boys up and went for a short walk. It was pretty hot so I didn't want to overheat the LPs. Knox fell asleep and I decided to head up to Sonic and get a drink. Pierce fell asleep on the ride there and I drove around a bit to try and let them keep sleeping.

When we got home and unloaded, major crying was had by all for a good hour. Even while eating cereal. It was a DISASTER. Knox cried the whole time I fed them and Pierce shoved his hands in his mouth and smeared everything all over the place. A bath was necessary so off I went - one at a time.

I bathed Knox first and had Pierce buckled into the table for two. I was trying so hard to get Knox to calm down. Luckily it did - for the moment. As soon as I was done, he started crying harder than before. And this is how I found Pierce who cried the entire time I was bathing Knox :

Not good. Not good at all...

Pierce was next. Typically he loves bath time and splashing around. He wasn't having it today. I got all the oatmeal off of him and got them both completely ready for bed.  There was no way we could wait for daddy tonight.

They both finished their bottles and went to bed without much of a fuss. Both were asleep within minutes of me laying them down. Poor guys were exhausted. Their little cat naps don't do them much good. I really wish they would take two hour long naps a day. I'm not sure how to make that happen. They seem to love their 20 min power naps every few hours.

We had terrible storms pass through last night. The only room that has a shade on the window is the LPs room. Even in there it is a paper shade so it gets the job done but not when it's storming. Both boys were up a little before 4. Nick tried to take the monitor out so I could get some sleep but they were both crying so loud it wasn't possible. I got up and helped Nick make bottles. Pierce went back down after his. Knox needed more and didn't go back down until 6:45 according to Nick.

Lena texted me at work today and said she had both boys asleep in their cribs for nap time!!! She's so awesome! I wish I could do that!! I'm going to keep trying. I wonder how she did it?!?

It's been a long day at work and I am ready to go home. The drive in was rough this morning. I could barely see 10 yards in front of me, it was raining so hard. Hopefully my drive home will be better!!!  Yay for no work tomorrow!!!

Tantrums and Target

Monday was a crazy day. Both boys woke up on the wrong side of the bed. They hollered and cried most of the day. It was heart breaking for this mommy.

I'm struggling getting anything done these days. I used to be able to clean bottles and still peer over the island in the kitchen and see the boys. These days we have them set up in the media room and when I walk downstairs to clean or warm bottles or get food, P full on screams with big crocodile tears sliding down his face. Knox is usually ok if I'm out of sight but It breaks my heart hearing Pierce. Unfortunately, I cannot take them up and down the stairs every time. It's not safe. At least when I leave them up there, they are safe in their seats or exercaucers. I'm hoping it's just a transition period and it will get better. Please pray it does cause this mama hates to hear her babies cry like that.

Finally out after much crying ....

After their nap and morning snack and bottle, we loaded up and headed to Target. We were a sight for sore eyes. Let me tell ya. I had the double stroller set up and was pulling a very full cart behind me. I had gotten almost everything on my list ....

Target list.

We got lots of "bless your hearts", "oh my- twins!" And "you've got your hands full!" From several different people. And you know what, we do but we are surviving!!!

The boys did great. Pierce was asleep when we got there and Knox fell asleep after P woke up. They looked around and took everything in. I love watching them look around in amazement and wonder. It's so refreshing. Oh what they must be thinking!!!

The cashier was a mommy of 18 year old boy twins. Her 3rd and 4th babies!!! You do survive!!! She was very sweet and helpful and got me and my big load out the door.

Talk about a trunk loaded to the top. It wasn't as bad as when we left the hotel but boy did we have a full load. We swung through Sonic - mommy needed a diet cherry limeade- and headed home. The boys fell asleep again and I was able to unload the car. Then it was time for diaper changes and playing.

We played for a while and then I had to go put the target stuff away. We had some perishables and I didn't want them to go bad. Low and behold, scream fest 2015 ensued again. I hurried as fast as I could and then headed up to pump/feed/play.

Nick was texted multiple times yesterday. Mostly with me in tears. I couldn't help myself. The boys were so upset whenever I wasn't in their direct line of vision and nothing I did calmed them down other than holding them. Unfortunately I'm one person and I can't hold them both 24/7. I wish I could but I can't.
Trying my best to dry the tears.

Red nosed from crying.

All this crying makes us sleepy

Nick suggested that I bring the boys up to his work so I did. We ate and then packed up and headed to DU. The board of directors is in town so we had to sneak to where they do deliveries. You should have seen the amount of people waiting to meet the LPs. There were at least 20 people with hand sanitizer in hand!!! The boys loved it and hammed it up big time. We stayed for about 20-30 minutes and then headed home.

Once at the house, we played and played while I pumped. It was then time for some oatmeal and then before we knew it, daddy was home and it was bedtime. We tag teamed getting them ready for bed and then bottles and prayers followed. The boys went down with barely a peep. They were tired!!! Too many tantrums for one day I suppose.

Tomorrow is my first day making my commute to work. Please pray it goes well and I make it on time. I'm so afraid of being late!

8 months old!

Somehow the LPs are 8 months old. I swear each month goes faster than the last - if that is possible.

This past month has been so challenging yet so rewarding. I absolutely love watching them observe and explore new things. They have had a lot of change recently and they are handling it all fairly well, all things considered.

Pierce- oh bubba you are going to give mommy and daddy a run for our money. You have really upped the curiosity quotient and are into EVERYTHING. You love to stand and prefer it over sitting any day. We are working on this because we need you to sit before you can walk!!! You love to put your hands in your mouth, especially when you eat. I think more food ends up on your hands than in your mouth. You love to eat but still prefer milk over food. Mommy loves nursing you. You have a tendency to grab my hair and clothes and pull them towards you. You want to touch everything and aren't much of a snuggler. Mommy loves putting you to sleep at night because that is the only time she gets to snuggle you. Otherwise, it's go, go, GO!!!  You've had a rough time adjusting the the recent changes and have been exercising your vocal cords quite a bit. You also don't like it when mommy is out of sight. You love to flirt with the ladies and you flash your dimpled, mega watt smile to anyone who plays with you. You are my sweet P and mommy and daddy love you deeper than the ocean and higher than the sky!!!!

Knox, little buddy, you are coming into your own. You are super curious and very observant. You take everything in piece by piece. You have mastered the art of sitting and do pretty well for up to 15 minutes! It's so fun to watch you. You're very proud of yourself - as you should be - and as are mommy and daddy. You love when anyone claps for you and your gummy smile and chubby cheeks make everyone swoon. You love to eat and scream for the next bite. It's no wonder you're surpassing your brother in weight. You prefer mommys milk and love to nurse. When you are finished eating you tend to cry and that's when mommy knows you're done. You are adjusting to all the life changes fairly well although you have been waking at night a bit more than usual. You're a tad bit shy and take a little while to warm up to people but once you do, you're all smiles and giggles. You are so sweet and love to snuggle. The way you cuddle melts our hearts and I hope this never changes. Knoxer boxer, mommy and daddy love you deeper than the ocean and higher than the sky!

I know this next month they will grow and develop even more. I'm anxious to see them develop but as always, I wish time would slow down just a little bit. My babies aren't going to be babies much longer.
