This morning I woke up to feed the boys and turned on the news. I was devestated to learn that another nurse has been diagnosed with Ebola. It was bound to happen but the real kicker is that she took a plane trip to and from Ohio the day before she became symptomatic. She was visiting her mom and planning her wedding. The plane continued to make 5 additional flights before being decontaminated. Apparently she had contacted the CDC and told them she had a low grade fever of 99.5. They gave her permission to fly anyway. That evening her temperature spiked and she was admitted and diagnosed. It's difficult to think that she could have possibly infected others. This truly could become an epidemic. I, however, choose to hope and pray that it will not be contracted by anyone else. This second nurse, Amber Vinson, has been flown to Atlanta where they are equipped to treat people with Ebola. The first nurse, Nina Pham, is now in good condition after receiving a blood transfusion by Dr. Kent Brantly, a former Ebola patient.
Fluid replacement and nutrition is what has been used to attempt to treat Ebola. Seems so simple doesn't it? But obviously it is not.
My heart and prayers go out too all of the nurses, techs, physicians, ancillary staff, family and friends of all of the Ebola victims. God is so good all the time. This has been written in His plan long before this outbreak began and only He knows how and when it will end. So in the meantime, I will continue to pray. Not only for the aforementioned people but also for the US as a whole. I know I had a moment of panic but then I came back to reality and realized that God has a plan. We may not understand what it is but He does. So for that reason, I will be praying for everyone. For patience while this all plays out, for confidence in His plan and for peace of mind.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
